The economy is a joke, really

I gave a presentation as part of my introduction to TOK presentations. Basically, it looked at the role of humour in our understanding of the world, (or Humour as a Way of Knowing)!

This was inspired by the number of jokes about economists – made by economists – I have heard since the GFC.

To Lead or not to Lead, that is the Question!

With our Year 11s TOK Presentation Development Day next week I have been looking around for up-to-the-minute articles to use as examples for developing a presentation, as well as going over my old standards and presentation samples.

I have also come across a number of articles that are provocative, allowing student the opportunity to identify in their interests, then a relevant real life situation and construct the TOK framework around it.

TOK Presentation Skills

“the quality of the TOK Presentation is not judged on your presentation skills”

I don’t know how many times I have said something like this in a class and I am still not sure if it is true. Initially I used to say it to dissuade students from investing all their time in producing flash PPTs. But the question remains, does poorly presented material have an impact on the viewer? Are we talking about poor communication but a great presentation design, great analysis and so on? Alternatively, when we present information exceptionally well, does the viewer lose anything because it is too slick?
