Unwanted Chemicals in our Bodies (4) – Synthetic Musks

Synthetic musks are a group of chemicals that are manufactured to emulate natural musks. They are found in substances such as aftershave, soap, perfume and air fresheners.

These musks are absorbed through the skin and lungs and some, due to their structure are thought to be endocrine disruptors. They are stable substances so they tend to persist in the environment (hence the reason why they are used).

The Man Made Human Chemical Store

Every Sunday, I enjoy sitting down to read the Sunday papers. In the UK, these are packed with supplements and mini papers. The largest on the market is the Sunday Times and there is really enough information in it to last a good week. A few weeks back, one of its supplements, (the Sunday Times Magazine …. I think it was) contained an excellent article.

The article dealt with chemicals inside us. It detailed a number of man made chemicals that are found in everyday items and that bio accumulate in our bodies…..
