A Psychology News App

The app PsycExplorer is an effective way to keep up to date with psychology in the news, videos, podcasts and tweets as well as favorite topics.

Currently this app is displaying items on a range of topics from coping strategies, improving memory, controlling forgetfulness to shyness as an evolutionary tactic. There are links to videos on metacognition in education, Dan Ariely on the placebo effect and a review of Zimbardo and Boyd’s work on their book  The Time Paradox. The lists go on.

Demonstrations of Classic CLOA studies

The site Go Cognitive is a wonderful resource for teaching the Cognitive Level of Analysis. There are video interviews with psychologists including Alan Baddeley and a number of psychologists who look at the biological bases of cognition.

Introducing students to classic experiments at the cognitive level of analysis is an effective way of sparking their interest. This site has online demonstrations of such experiments as change bias, memory lists by Roediger and McDermott (1975) and the Working Memory Capacity. Students will enjoy the demonstrations and learn how early experiments were conducted.
