Topic 2.6 and Topic 4: Gardens Sustain Bumble Bee populations

Researchers at Sterling University have found that gardens support bigger bee populations that farmed land. Obviously this has major implications for the conservation of bees which have been the focus of a lot of media attention over the last few years. Of special interest to ESS is how the researchers counted the population. They didnt count indiviudal bees seen flying about around flowers as these are sterile worker bees what they counted was the number f nests, each nest containing one breeding female queen.
