A Wet Mooon? Good or Bad Reporting?

There was, at first glance, a good article that I read on the BBC website today (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/science_and_environment/10313173.stm). The articel talks about the amount of water locked up in rocks on the moon.


It is estimated that if all the water was extracted from the rocks it would cover the surface of the moon to a depth of 1m!

Energy on the Moon?

Lets make an assumption (a dangerous thing, I know!). Man has built a Moon base. Where will the power come from?

Transporting fuel to the moon is not cost effective. Solar panels? Well, they need to be transported there as well and a lunar night lasts fourteen days! How about…..

Europium (Eu) and the Moon

Europium is sort silver metal. It was discovered in Paris (hence the name) by Eugene – Anatole Demarcay in 1901. It is found in the rare earth metals or the Lanthanides.

Strangely, it is found in moon rock, in much higher amounts than expected. Moon rock also contains to 2+ ion, rather than the 3+ ion found on the Earth.
