Celebrating Ortner

Given that it is International Women’s Day, I have chosen to focus this post on a woman anthropologist who has made outstanding contributions to the understanding of humanity. While it is very difficult to choose just one person to honour, Sherry Ortner is widely read in introductory anthropology classes. This is with good reason, as her writing is accessible and rich.

Ethnography, leadership & social action

As May session schools begin to gear up for a new academic year, teachers may be concerned with how they will meet all of the goals laid out in the subject guide. While this is important, I also encourage teachers to think about how their courses not only fulfill the subject guide, but also simultaneously address the IB mission and the broader goals of helping students to learn about leadership and world peace.
