Fight of the Century form Econ Stories

After the tremendous success of “Fear the Boom and Bust” a Hayek vs. Keynes Rap Anthem by Econ Stories, a follow rap has just been released. This rap titled Fight of the Century: Keynes versus Hayek Round Two explores the recent economic recession. As explained:

According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Great Recession ended almost two years ago, in the summer of 2009. But we’re all uneasy. Job growth has been disappointing. The recovery seems fragile. Where should we head from here? Is that question even meaningful? Can the government steer the economy or have past attempts helped create the mess we’re still in?

Obama’s Deficit Speech

President’s Obama’s speech on reducing the budget deficit delivered at Georgetown University is an excellent opportunity to explore a range of concepts and theories for the IB Economics Course.  The distinction between normative and positive statements, macroeconomics goals, recession, government spending, budget surplus and deficit, welfare, progressive and regressive taxes, tax cuts and the Laffer Curve, the Lorenz Curve, infrastructure  and investment.

One activity is to provide the full transcript of the speech to students and have them underline all key economic terms. Here is a link to the NPR podcast of the speech and the full transcript.
