Searching on the Prescribed Literature in Translation List (PLT), I was surprised to find that neither ‘Garcia Marquez’ nor ‘Chronicle of a Death Foretold’ brought up anything. For a moment, I thought the selection committee had gone a bit too far with the ax!
But if you search ‘Spanish’ then both Chronicle of a Death Foretold and Love in the Time of Cholera are there.
It has been interesting to observe reactions at various workshops–both online and face to face–regarding the English A1 and new course syllabi rubric, prescribed lists (PWL/PLT and PBL/PLA) and assessment components.
On the one hand, some participants feel that the ‘choice’ is too broad. They would simply like someone to tell them which works they should do, in what order and how. Often, they misinterpret the ‘lists’ as ‘reading lists’ which they must master wholly.
So…. I know that Language A: Language and Literature is a ‘new’ course, BUT, what are the similarities and differences between English A1 and Language and Literature (L& L) courses?

The work and author lists for the ‘new’ Language A courses (with teaching starting from 2011 and first examinations in 2013) are out on the Online Curriculum Centre (OCC) in ‘pre-published’ form.

What on earth is a ‘statement of intent’ (S.O.I.)?
For World Literature Assignment 2, it is a required precursor to any creative assignment (2b). A penalty of -1 is applied if it is not included, and Criterion C (Presentation) is affected negatively if it is ineffective.
I’ve been an IB DP teacher for many years, but having a daughter taking her exams this year has added a whole ‘nother layer to the experience.
And then there has been the whole ‘university’ thing. This BBC article captures a lot of my concerns about that: How about $200,000 for a degree?
Not that IB DP teachers ever go into the classroom unprepared… But…
