Internal Assessment: The Design Project Undertaken as a Team
The compulsory design project aspect of the Design Technology Practical Programme can be undertaken by individual students or by teams of students. The assessment criteria are the same for each strategy i.e. all the assessment criteria will be applied to each student whether completing the project as an individual or as a member of a team. This means that it is not possible for members of a team to concentrate on only one or two aspects of the assessment criteria such as “design” or “evaluation” leaving “planning”, “research” and “manipulative skills” to other members of the team. For each student in a team to do well in all aspects of the design cycle it will be necessary for the team project to have enough scope so that each member may undertake a “project within a project”. In other words, each student is able to demonstrate in their design folio their ability at each stage of the design cycle as well as their project contributing to the larger scale team project.
