As teachers I am sure all of us have struggled with facilitating effective group work. Ensuring that all students are productive and that real engagement with the content is taking place poses a number of challenges. Students themselves often complain that group work is a waste of time. One way to approach these challenges is to have students examine a list of characteristics of effective groups and discuss these before group work takes place.
