Encouraging students to maintain a blog and regularly post articles consolidates their learning. A lot of writing at school is high stakes because it is part of an assessment profile and counts towards end of course grades. As Peter Elbow argues this writing to demonstrate learning is vital but so is another type of writing: writing for learning.
Writing a blog post offers this opportunity because the focus is on understanding, remembering and figuring out how this new understanding applies to the real world. Though this writing may not be as polished as writing that will be graded, it promotes learning through active involvement with course material.
