One night last week I was having dinner in an upscale, fancy restaurant and a couple nearby began asking me about what I do and what I think about various historical events and phenomena. At the end of the converstaion, the gentlemen just announced to me that few people may know it, but the American Central Intelligence Agency tried to overthrow the Australian government in 1974. While I glibly asked him if he were referring to Gough Whitlam and the constitutional crisis, this thought stayed in my head: was the CIA involved? So, I began to research this from this perspective to see what I could find.
