Imagine your classroom in 2019

A friend  who attended a talk by Craig Mundie, Microsoft’s Chief research and strategy officer, shared this  with me. It is amazing what is just around the corner.

First check out the video, what could you do in a classroom like this, you better start thinking about it, because its apparently just around the corner.

Because I still have moderation on the mind

OK, I seem to be stuck on a theme, but I promise you this is my last post in this direction for awhile.  Why not send the moderation team your electronic folders next year. Think about the savings in time and scanning/photocopying and shipping costs.

You could set up your students design folders in Wikispaces or Googledocs for example, create one page as the index to help the moderator sort through the material, a link to each student and to the background info, and a separate section for all the F3.1s and then all you have to do is Email the one link and share the file so that the moderation team has access.  How easy is that?  if you get organized early enough, the students do all the work of uploading their own work  so it turns the nightmare of organizing your moderation sample into the simple process of filling out 8 F3.1 forms and making the links.

Moderation Time

The Volcano in Iceland has put a bit of a damper on the Moderation meetings scheduled to take place this weekend.  The technology meeting was canceled altogether… in a manner of speaking.  Rather than flying to Madrid for a face to face meeting the technology team is meeting virtually, using a great set of  software packets.

Eluminate for discussions. It works much like Skype, however, has a much more professional look and feel and gives you a shared whiteboard as well that all the participants of the meeting can add notes to, or which can be controlled by the moderator of the meeting.

Electronic Design Folders

Providing the evidence for assessment in MYP Technology is done through the design folder.  Often a very heavily text based object.  But does it have to be this way? The assessment criteria ask for evidence of each stage of the design cycle organized under the appropriate assessment criterion headings, it does not say this has to be a written document.  What about creating a process journal in mp3 format?  Or a Design Folder Website?  What about a prototype designs, actually building rather than sketching?  A Blog is also a great format for a record of process, or perhaps an entire design folder video?

Welcome to our MYP Technology Blog

Filed under: Technology — Kathy Snow @ 8:06 am

Technology is usually one of the most controvercial and exciting subjects in the school, it is also one of the most diverse.   The MYP technology subject covers such a broad range of areas, some of you reading this might be computer professionals, others design specialists, maybe food technologists, I have also met some music technologists as well.Maybe you specialise in metal work, or wood work, or your background could be in the Arts, we are really a very complicated bunch to pin down!

As a computer tech teacher you are probably not only responsible for teaching the students, but also the staff, maybe coordinating the schools network and data systems, perhaps even fixing the photo copier or coffee machine!  Any of this sound familiar.  What a job, and definetly under appreciated…. This video post is for you!
