Digital Citizenship

Filed under: ITGS — Barbara Stefanics @ 10:24 am

With school begin is staff  review guidelines and rules and how they will present these to students. Digital Citizenship is a topic that begins in kindergarten and extends throughout the school. It must be put into context and daily practice. Waiting to address Digital Citizenship in an ITGS class is simply too late.

A most successful approach to promoting Digital Citizenship is by having students write the guidelines in language that they understand. The result of one such project shows the rules as interpreted by Grade 8 students (Flatclassroom Projects) and promoted with other fellow students.

Filed under: ITGS — Barbara Stefanics @ 11:42 am

Not only the cover photo has raised serious ethical issues, but the content of the article as well. Fictional details of what Princess Diana’s life would have been like up to now along with a mock-up of her Facebook page have caused considerable controversy across the news media.

Try it quick because New York Times websites become “invisible” unless you subscribe.

For the  ITGS product this means striving for quality in:

ITGS EE – the Research Question

Filed under: ITGS — Barbara Stefanics @ 12:55 pm

The research question is actually the ‘life and death’ of an ITGS extended essay. If the research question is not stated concisely and cannot be researched and developed within the framework of the Triangle, then it is unlikely that it will be successful.

At the beginning, the student may have a broad area of interest. Usually searching through news articles will help focus the research on a current aspect of the topic. As soon as the student has an idea of the topic that they would like to work on, they should meet with their supervisor to formulate the first version of the research question. It is far from the last. Sometimes it is easier for the student to think in terms of keywords: online video games, South Korea, social/ethical issues.
